Event background

In cooperation with the Irish Government, Eurofound has organised its 7th flagship Foundation Forum 2022. With over 800 participants, this one-day event was an opportunity to explore the theme of Europe’s recovery and how, against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the EU can work to ensure lasting equality, inclusion and social cohesion as it embarks on its path to rebuild a greener, more digital and more resilient Union.

Panel sessions

A series of panel sessions debated questions such as

  • How did COVID-19 impact EU convergence and how can the EU and its Member States best address the challenge of persistent and ever-widening inequalities?

  • How will the pandemic shape the future of work?

  • Can Member States future-proof social protection, welfare and trust in institutions? and

  • Is it possible to achieve all of this, while ensuring a sustainable transition to a just and greener Europe?

Organised as a hybrid event, the event was aimed at high-level policymakers and opinion formers in the field of living and working conditions. Drawing on facts and figures, it took participants through a live interactive experience of policy discussions, data and findings. Read the background paper for the event, as well as the key takeaways and blog reflecting on the discussions by Eurofound's Executive Director.

Recovery and resilience in the EU – Back to the future? Some reflections on Foundation Forum 2022

When it comes to Europe’s COVID-19 recovery and its aspiration to build back a more resilient society, the so-called green and digital transitions have dominated EU policy discussions. And as Eurofound made preparations for the 2022 Foundation Forum – a unique occasion for high-level debate on the state of living and working in Europe – these twin transitions were at the forefront of people’s minds. That is, until one week before the event, when Russia invaded Ukraine.
