Event background

Game-changing technologies - How will they impact Europe’s economy, work and employment?  20 April, 11.00 – 12.00 CET

Watch the webinar

How can the EU keep in step with game-changing technologies that are set to transform production and employment in Europe? What changes will advanced robots, networked machines and artificial intelligence bring to our economy? What will be the consequences for how work is organised in companies, for employment, skills and tasks at work? And how can policymakers identify the opportunities for these technologies to help foster good employment and working conditions rather than generate negative effects?

Eurofound experts

Join Eurofound experts Ricardo Rodriguez Contreras and Eleonora Peruffo for a one-hour #AskTheExpert webinar to learn more about game-changing technologies and why it is so important for policymakers to monitor the deployment of these technologies closely.

Moderated by Irene Mandl, Head of Employment at Eurofound, the experts will hold a short introductory discussion and will then engage with participants via the LIVE online chat. The webinar will also be an opportunity to reflect on the impact of COVID-19 and how the pandemic is fast-tracking some of these game-changing technologies.

Irene Mandl is Head of the Employment Unit at Eurofound. She is mainly involved in research on labour market developments (including new forms of work and employment, digitalisation, restructuring and related public policy approaches) and topics at the intersection of employment and entrepreneurship (such as job-creation, workplace practices, small and medium-sized enterprises, business start-ups and scale-ups and internationalisation). Before joining Eurofound, she worked in policy-oriented socioeconomic research in Austria in the fields of employment and the labour market, as well as entrepreneurship and industry analysis. She holds Master’s degrees in international business administration and in business and law.

Ricardo Rodriguez Contreras is a research manager in the Working Life unit at Eurofound and focuses on comparative industrial relations, social dialogue and collective bargaining. He is also involved in research on restructuring and the implications of technology and digital change in employment relations. Prior to joining Eurofound in 2014, he worked as a consultant for the European Commission and the European Parliament conducting studies at EU level assessing the implementation of social legislation throughout the EU, the EEA and the candidate countries. For years, he performed training activities for multinational companies and European Works Councils in the area of comparative industrial relations and labour legislation in the EU. He has also worked for the Inter-American Development Bank and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration in some countries of Latin America. He holds a BSc in Law from the Complutense University in Madrid.

Eleonora Peruffo is a research officer in the Working Life unit at Eurofound. She works with the European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS) team and on projects related to the future of work, providing data analysis and data visualisations. She holds an MA in Diplomatic Sciences and International Relations awarded by the University of Trieste and an MSc in Computer Science - Data Analytics from the National College of Ireland. She joined Eurofound in 2014 and she has also worked on topics related to restructuring, employment and upward convergence.
